چکیده

Neil Muncy [1] has shown that audio frequency current flowing on the shield of twisted-pair audio wiring will be converted to differential mode voltage by any imbalance in the transfer impedance of the cable. He hypothesized that the effect is magnified by the presence of a drain wire and increases linearly with frequency. Whitlock [2] and others have shown that conversion also occurs with capacitive imbalance. This paper confirms Muncy's hypotheses and shows that shield-current-induced noise is significant well into the MHz range.

Modelling of Shielded Cables with Shield Driver Circuits for Bioelectrical Signal Transmissions under Robust Operating Conditions

Transmission lines are used to transmit energy such as acoustic or electromagnetic waves or bulk of electrical energy from one place to another, and co-axial shielded cable of them. Other means of transportation are two-wires (twisted pair cable and un-twisted pair cable). All such transmission lines are prone to noise coupling from ambient environment, for example, noise from capacitive coupli...

SCIN: Shield Current Induced Noise

Introduction My previous note focused on pin 1 problems as an open door for RF into audio equipment. But RF can also enter equipment on the signal conductor(s) if the equipment fails to block it with an effective low pass filter. RF is induced on a shielded balanced pair by at least three mechanisms: • Imbalance in the magnetic coupling between the shield and the two signal conductors (Shield-c...

Universal Serial Bus Signal Integrity Analysis for High - Speed Signaling

The Universal Serial Bus transmits differential data over twisted-pair cables originally designed for signaling at 12Mbit/s. Because of the recent specification of a 480Mbit/s signaling speed with the existing cabling, the high frequency behavior and temporal response of these cables is of interest. In this work, twoand threedimensional field solvers are used to characterize the field behavior ...

Gradient-Type Magnetoelectric Current Sensor with Strong Multisource Noise Suppression

A novel gradient-type magnetoelectric (ME) current sensor operating in magnetic field gradient (MFG) detection and conversion mode is developed based on a pair of ME composites that have a back-to-back capacitor configuration under a baseline separation and a magnetic biasing in an electrically-shielded and mechanically-enclosed housing. The physics behind the current sensing process is the pro...

Software Methods for Analysis of Transient Voltages Coupled to Shielded Cables in Hv Substations

Two main causes of such induced voltages in the shield are: time-varying magnetic flux and potential difference at the cable connections with the earthing system. It has been shown in that both components of the voltage along shield, due to ground potential difference and field coupling, are significant and moreover that they cancel each other. As a consequence, it is possible to optimize the d...
